In October 2014, Chromecast 2 was passed through the FCC. And since then, rumors about second-gen Chromecast are here and there. And it was widely believed that it would show up on Google I/O 2015, but it turned out to be a no-show. Despite of that, Chromecast version 2 is on its way and will be released in the near future. And in this article you can get some rumors of Chromecast 2 release date/specifications/features, and learn how to stream DVD to Chromecast 2 for watching DVD movies on HDTV without a DVD player.

Google Chromecast 2 Release Date, Specifications, Features Rumors

Chromecast 2 release date rumors: Although it is not unveiled at Google I/O 2015, it is expected to be released in summer 2015.

Chromecast 2 specifications and new features rumors: It is rumored that Chromecast 2 will have a faster onboard Wi-Fi module and support for higher-resolution (even 4K) streaming. However, a member of the Chromecast team wrote on Reddit:"No plans for a big announcement on this one. Mostly because it will have the same features as the original and most users won't notice a difference. Sorry--I can't say more about this topic." According to the FCC files, Chromecast 2 is still connected via HDMI and powered by Micro-USB, and features wireless connectivity. Both 2.4- and 5GHz 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi bands are mentioned, but only 2.4GHz tested. Meanwhile, Chromecast 2 could come with a faster CPU, more RAM and improved heat dissipation (fingers crossed).

No matter what will come to Chromecast 2, the function of streaming local videos will still be there. And with a DVD to Chromecast converter, you can stream DVD from PC/Mac to HDTV via Chromecast 2 at ease.

Step 1. Download and install a DVD converter. When it comes to DVD converter, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is second to none. It is able to rip and convert any DVDs including latest copy-protected DVD discs/DVD folders/ISO files to MP4, WebM, AVI, MOV, 3GP, M4V, and others. Most notably, it has a ready-made output profile for Chromecast, thus you can directly rip DVD to Chromecast 2 without complicated settings. It is available to stream DVD to Chromecast 2 on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10, etc, as well as Mac OS X 10.6 or later, including Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

Step 2. Launch DVD to Chromecast 2 ripper and load DVD. After downloading and installing the WinX DVD Ripper Platinum (for Mac) on your PC or Mac, you can launch it and click "DVD Disc" button to load the DVD you want to play on HDTV via Chromecast 2.

Step 3. Choose "Chromecast MP4 Video (H264)" as the output. Seconds later, this software will select the DVD main title and display the Output Profile window for you spontaneously. To stream DVD to Chromecast, a profile named "Chromecast MP4 Video (H264)" under PC General Video category is your best output option. Click on it and hit "Ok" to go on.

Step 4. Specify a destination folder and begin ripping DVD to Chromecast 2. Click "Browse" to choose a destination folder to store the ripped DVD content. Then tap on "RUN" button to begin ripping DVD to Chromecast 2.
